The Wonders Of Movies: Swearing

Swearing first came into being in 1929 two years after sound films were invented in 1927 with a woman saying the phrasal verb "damn it". However, the usage of the word that means a female dog wasn't used as a slang until 1930 when a man said the line "son of a b****" in a movie. And another swear word first appeared in a 1933 cartoon when a character said the following sentence: "That dirty f****!"

But in 1934, the head of the MPAA banned profanity in movies, with a film that was released the same year as Walt Disney's "Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs" and the Judy Garland-starring "Wizard Of Oz" movies, using the word "damn", which caused theater audiences to gasp. And that was when the producers of that 1939 movie ended up paying $85000 as a fine for using the word.

From then on, a rule was posted: Swear in movies only if you quote famous literature. However, swear words came to stay in the 60s and went nuts in the 80s, with Scarface using swear words the most times in history.
